Beyond the Transaction: Why We Invest Our Expertise in Our Community

Sharing Our Most Valuable Asset

At Schwartz Heslin Group, our days are spent navigating high-stakes challenges. We guide business owners through major turning points, like valuations, transactions, and strategic turnarounds. Our focus is on maximizing value and building long-term financial health.

We believe that same strategic rigor is just as important for the organizations that form our community's bedrock.

Nonprofits, healthcare systems, and educational institutions face the same operational hurdles and financial complexities as any for-profit enterprise. Their "bottom line," however, isn't measured in profit, but in mission impact. As a firm deeply rooted in the Capital Region, we believe we have a responsibility to invest our most valuable asset, our team’s strategic and operational expertise, to help them succeed.

For us, this isn't just philanthropy; it's a core part of our philosophy. A thriving community, with world-class healthcare, vibrant arts, and robust educational opportunities, is the foundation for a strong economy. The two are, and always will be, symbiotic.

Leadership, Not Just Support

Our commitment starts at the top. We don't just sponsor events. Our leadership rolls up its sleeves and serves in the boardroom. We help guide strategy, protect financial stewardship, and navigate the same complex decisions we do for our clients.

This philosophy is embodied by our team:

  • Robert W. Schwartz, Founder, has long been a force for economic and social progress in the region. He has served as Chair of The 50 Group and is on the board of the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce. He is currently Chair of the Audit Committee for Northeast Grocers (NGI). NGI was formed by the merger of Golub Corp. (Price Chopper and Market 32) and Tops supermarkets. The board provides guidance to the management of this 300-store organization, which operates in 6 states and actively gives back to the community. His service on the board of Northeast Shared Services and his 20-year tenure teaching entrepreneurship in the MBA program at UAlbany demonstrate a career-long commitment to fostering innovation and building a stronger economic foundation for everyone.

  • Rai Archibold, Managing Director, dedicates his expertise to the region's key cultural and healthcare institutions. He currently serves on the boards of Albany Medical Center (13 years), Proctors Collaborative (8 years), and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC). His past service also includes Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Albany Community Charter School, the Saratoga Hospital Foundation, and the Capital District YMCA. This work shows a deep, personal commitment to strengthening the organizations that care for our community.

Partners in the Mission

Our firm-wide support extends to the foundational pillars of our region. We are proud long-term partners for organizations that define the Capital Region. This includes healthcare partners like Albany Medical Center and Saratoga Hospital. We also support economic and educational opportunity through Junior Achievement, the HVCC Foundation, the University at Albany Foundation, and EO Albany. And we champion our local arts and community builders, The Prescott Foundation and The Albany Barn.

At SHG, we are more than trusted advisors for businesses. We are committed partners in our community. We invest our time and expertise to help build a stronger, more resilient Capital Region, creating a place where both people and businesses can succeed.

Because a stronger community isn't just a better place to live—it's the foundation for everyone's success.
