Meet Jerry Golub: Retail Visionary, Governance Expert, and Strategic Navigator

At SHG, we believe the best advice comes from those who have not only studied the markets but have actually steered multi-billion-dollar organizations through periods of profound transformation. Our newest advisor, Jerry Golub, embodies this "operator-first" mentality.

With nearly three decades of senior-level experience in the retail food sector, Jerry brings a rare blend of branding brilliance, operational discipline, and sophisticated governance expertise to the SHG team.

From Family Roots to CEO

Jerry’s career is a masterclass in leadership evolution. During his tenure at the Golub Corporation (Price Chopper Supermarkets/Market 32), he rose through the ranks to serve as President and CEO. This wasn't just about maintaining the status quo; Jerry was tasked with shepherding an 80-year-old legacy organization through a critical transition to a new generation of both family and non-family management.

His leadership was defined by a "re-imagining of the possible." He spearheaded the company’s rebranding to Market 32, a transformation that successfully captured the loyalty of younger shoppers while retaining the brand's core baby boomer segment.

M&A and Integration

For our clients navigating mergers and acquisitions, Jerry’s background is invaluable. He doesn't just understand the financial side of a transaction—he understands the human and operational side.

Jerry has led the due diligence, negotiation, and integration of numerous supermarket transactions and oversaw the strategic acquisition of fourteen independent pharmacies, consistently delivering ROIs exceeding 25%. His ability to balance marketing and merchandising talent with rigorous financial oversight makes him a formidable ally in any deal room.

Expertise in Governance

Beyond the retail floor, Jerry is a seasoned board member with a deep focus on strategic alternatives and corporate structure. Currently serving as Co-Chair of the Board of Northeast Grocery Inc. (the parent company of Price Chopper/Market 32 and Tops Markets), he has spent years refining the governance and leadership frameworks of multiple organizations.

Through his firm, Evolution Strategies LLC, Jerry has become a sought-after advisor for privately held and family-owned businesses. He specializes in helping companies streamline operations, improve governance, and develop brand-based mindsets designed for sustainable growth.

Community and Education

A firm believer in the power of community and culture, Jerry has served on the board of the Albany Symphony Orchestra for over twenty years, including a six-year term as Board Chair. He also lends his expertise to the advisory board of Butternut Mountain Farms, a respected Vermont-based manufacturer.

Jerry holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Boston University and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Business at Northwestern University.
